2024 Year in Review

I can’t believe we are nearing the end of 2024; the year has certainly flown by. I have had a busy year and have achieved a lot. I have also ticked off several of the goals I set at the beginning of the year.

As I’m a member of the Marlborough Camera Club, I have served on the committee for three years, I was responsible for finding Judges for our monthly topics and I was the PSNZ (Photographic Society of New Zealand) representative for the club. It kept me quite busy, and it was time to come off the committee at the AGM in August to allow me to focus more on my photography and my website.

I have also upgraded my website to an eCommerce site and have added a print store, this is currently a work in progress, and I will offer more prints for sale over the coming months.

In April I joined NZIPP (NZ Institute of Professional Photographers) as a regional member and the Nelson region is continually active with meetups and workshops. I attended an ICM - Intentional Camera Movement workshop in October. It was well worth the trip to Nelson for this. I also entered the inaugural 2024 NZ Amateur Photography Awards run by NZIPP alongside the Iris Awards. I was happy with the results as I entered eight images, and all eight images received an award.

Also, in April I purchased a macro lens as I enjoy taking images closeup of flowers and insects. The lens I purchased was a TTArtisan 40mm f2.8 lens, this is a manual focus lens. I’m incredibly happy with the images using this lens. I also have a lightbox to do indoor macro photography with my camera tethered to my computer where you can control the focus, background, and lighting especially with flower photography.

Back in November 2019 I purchased a Sony A6100 APSC (Cropped Sensor) Camera. This has been a great camera and over the years I have purchased new APSC Lens. In August of 2023 Sony released the A6700 APSC (Cropped Sensor) Camera, the Sony A6700 has lots of updated features and the ability to shoot high quality video in S Log 3. One of the goals I had set at the beginning of 2024 was to upgrade to the Sony A6700 and in September the time was right, and I purchased the Sony A6700 camera body from Photo Warehouse. As I still own the Sony A6100 this will now be my backup/second camera as I still enjoy taking photos with this camera.

Between Christmas and New Years, I will be busy reviewing the images I captured during 2024 and setting my goals and planning my photography adventures for 2025. As a sidenote I have started using Milanote. It’s a note taking app for creators where you can plan photoshoots by creating moodboards with all the information you require for the photoshoot. So far it works out to be a handy addition to my planning for 2025.
